The Very Rev. Liam M. Helms

The Very Rev. Liam M. Helms is an Anglican priest and Canon to the Ordinary for the Ordinariate of Saint George for Chaplaincy. A former Roman Catholic religious and Benedictine monk, he eventually returned home to the Anglican faith, carrying with him a lifelong love of Holy Scripture, the Church’s liturgy, and the ways in which each continually illuminates the other.

During his monastic formation, Fr. Liam completed an extensive theological reflection on the Rule of Saint Benedict, accompanied by years of personal journal notes exploring how the Rule not only shapes the life and worship of the monastery but continues to offer wisdom for Christians living in the modern world.

While revisiting those writings, he found himself in conversation with a friend who questioned why Anglicans still looked to the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, remarking that they were “outdated, useless, and that no one follows them anymore.” That conversation, occurring as he reread his reflections on St. Benedict, revealed a common thread: the Church has never outgrown the wisdom of her historic formularies simply because they are old. In that providential moment, The Living Articles was born.

Rather than approaching the Thirty-Nine Articles as historical relics, Fr. Liam invites readers to rediscover them as a living expression of the Anglican faith, one that continues to teach, challenge, and point believers ever more deeply toward Jesus Christ.
